Woah, has it really been 20 years since Deviantart came into existence? I feel so old! Anyways, I'd just like to thank this website for being an integral part of my writing career. I remember as a kid, I would always play my own stories in my head like a movie, as I had difficultly with sharing them with the rest of the world. While I didn't get interested at the time because I was still a toddler and only used the computer to play computer games- the internet hadn't become well-known quite yet. Come 2011, eleven years later, and I'm chatting with my friends here about my own story ideas, especially concerning Backyard Sports. One of my friends suggested, "Well, if you're interested Deviantart is good to put your work out there." While I eventually scrapped my first work after my lack of interest in it, I eventually posted "The Secret Life of the Backyard Kids," and the rest, they say, is history.
With all the fantastic art from the past twenty years, here's to another twenty! (Assuming the website doesn't go defunct.) Happy birthday Deviantart! #DA20thBirthday
Wow, has it really been 5 years since I've posted? Woah. Anyways, I've been thinking about this spinoff idea for the Backyard Sports series. Basically, I take the kids and spoof them in numerous popular movies- everything under the sun, from "A Hard Day's Night" to "X-Men" (As long as it is age-appropriate for the target audience...no "Hunger Games" here.) And speaking of Marvel, for Black History Month I've decided to spoof their most iconic black superhero (who is possibly the most iconic black superhero period), Black Panther.
Here's the synopsis:
After finding out he is the prince of a small country and destined to be king, Ricky Johnson fights for the crown from his evil half-brother, Ernie "Mr. Steal Yo-Crown" Steele. However, his wallflower attitude and soft-spoken attitude get in the way.
So, since I've already finished the (rough draft of) script, I will ask marlon94 (who is a fan of both the Backyard Sports series and Marvel) if he's interested in working on the script with me. Any ideas for the one-shot deal, please list in the comments below! Peace out, Jennifer Rose
